SANDRA K. DEAVER, 74 of Grant, NE, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Perkins County Hospital in Grant.
Sandra was born August 13, 1942 at Milford, Nebraska and adopted by Theodore "Ted" and Nellie (Szydzik) Spear. She attended St. Luke's Catholic School before attending Ogallala High School.
In September of 1958, Sandra married J. Dale Deaver in Julesburg, Colorado. Sandra and Dale were blessed with 4 children, John, Amy, Linda and Ted. The couple made their home in various places before settling outside of Paxton in 1969. There they started a family dairy farm. The family moved to Grant in 1977 where they continued to dairy until 1990. Following her husbands death in 1987, Sandra began driving for the Perkins County Handi-Bus program, which she continued for nearly 20 years.
Sandra was a wonderful seamstress, and her skills were put to good use over the years. From school clothes, prom dresses, brides maid dresses and wedding dresses, Sandra's love for her family was sewn into every garment that she toiled over. She was also known for her cake decorating. Sandra made countless cakes over the years for family and friends alike. The focal point of Sandra's life was her family, which was something that she never lost sight of.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; son, Ted; brother, Art Kozak; sister, Louise Kozak; parents-in-law, Bernard and Susie Deaver; brothers-in-law, Jesse Deaver, James Deaver, and Jerry Deaver; and sister-in-law, Geri Kozak.
Survivors include her children, John (Melody) Deaver of Brandon, Amy (Kevin) Atkins of Kingsland, TX, Linda (Greg Batt) Deaver of North Platte; sister, Kathy (Dave) Deaver of Grant; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; her biological siblings, Jesse Kozak, Ernie Kozak and Ila (James) Coontz; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in her memory. Condolences can be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10:30am at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Grant, NE with Father Thomas Bush as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, May 15, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm at Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant, NE. A rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:30pm at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church.
