Rose Barry, 92, longtime Grant resident, passed away on June 8, 2024, at the Independence House at Coddington of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Rose was born on February 24, 1932, in Grant, Nebraska, to Christian "Chris" Gengenbach Jr. and Anna Schurr. She was the eighth of nine children. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on July 10, 1932 and confirmed on June 3, 1945. She attended country school District 76 then went to Perkins County High School, graduating in 1949. She taught at the Sawyer school for one year and was then married to Jack Barry Jr. on April 30, 1950, at the Grant Methodist parsonage.

Jack and Rose lived in Paxton for a little more than a year, returning to Grant, where Jack worked at the Barry Produce Store for a few years. Over the years, she was a member of the Grant Cemetery Board, the Texas Trail, Pinochle Club, and Lutheran Ladies Aid, and participated in bowling and golfing leagues with Jack. A devoted homemaker, Rose was dedicated to her husband and family. She enjoyed traveling around the country with Jack to visit their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and attend their many events.
