Roma Strawder, age 72 of Wallace, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Aurora, CO.
Roma was born November 2, 1942 at San Antonio, TX to Don and Veva (Washburn) Melton. Following her father's military service, they returned to Melton Ranch southeast of Wallace. Roma graduated from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.
While attending school in Curtis, Roma met Bernard Strawder, and the two were eventually married on June 9, 1959 at Wallace. Their union was blessed with 5 children, Veva, Monty, Sandy "Sam," Shey and Cody. Roma worked at the Fat Sisters Cafe for many years before eventually purchasing the cafe and operating it as her own for the next 10 years.
Roma was an excellent cook, and her table always seemed full of more food than what was needed. Over the years, the family entertained countless dinner guests, all of whom were emphatically urged to "stay and eat" by Roma. She had a unique laugh that was easily identified. She nearly always wore a smile, and possessed a healthy sense of humor.
Roma was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Bernard of Wallace; 5 children, Veva Strawder, Monty Strawder, Shey Strawder, Cody (Heather) Strawder all of Wallace, Sandy "Sam" (Monte) Noffsinger of Haigler; 9 grandchildren, Felicia, Courtney, Casey, Dakota, Hailey, Ainsley, Derek, Riley and Gracie; 5 great grandchildren, August, Cooper, Charli, Johnathon and Ollie; brother, Wayne Melton of Wallace; her wonderful neighbors and friends affectionately known as the "Creek Crew" along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Roma's memory. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
