Rodney Everett Walrod was born on July 30, 1958 at Grant Nebraska. He was the youngest of 6 children born to Everett and Elaine Cox Walrod. Rod spent his early years on a farm northwest of Grant. When he was 10 years old the family moved into Grant. He attended school in Grant and later he received his G.E.D.
Rod began his working career with Haggard Drilling and later worked in construction.
Rod was married to Laurie Gentry on July 24, 1982 in North Platte. Two daughters were born to this union. Rod and Laurie made their home in Grant and in 1983 Rod began his commercial painting business.
Rod was married to Tabatha Brown on June 22, 2013. He worked for the roads department for a couple of years before failing health forced his retirement. He had suffered from A.L.S. and died early Thursday morning, September 10, 2015 after the ambulance had transferred him to the Perkins County Community Hospital. He was 57 years old.
Rod's passion was motorcycles. He built, repaired, and rode at every chance. He enjoyed the annual Sturgis rally and attended for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister-Marjorie.
He is survived by his wife Tabatha and her 2 sons- Jonathan and Zachary Collins; his 2 daughters- Andrea and her husband Craig Alderton of Council Bluffs Iowa and Nicole Walrod of North Platte; 2 granddaughters- Jeyda and Audie Alderton; 3 brothers- Larry (Shary) of Gordon, Kenny of Oshkosh, and Raymond (Marsha) of Grant; 2 sisters- Carol (A.J.) Mims in California and Coleen (Randy) Staples in Wyoming; other relatives and friends.
Committal of cremains will be held on Saturday, September 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grant Fairview Cemetery. Russ Gaar of the Grant Evangelical Free Church will officiate.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant is in charge of arrangements.
