Robert D. Bennett

January 21, 1935 — December 22, 2016

ROBERT "BOB" BENNETT, 81 of Grant, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, NE.

Bob was born January 21, 1935 at Long Pine, Nebraska to Clarence and Gladys (Oamek) Bennett. He graduated from Bassett High School in Basset, NE with the class of 1952.

Bob went to work for Central Nebraska Telephone Company, which eventually brought him to Grant in the mid 1950's. On April 5, 1968, Bob was united in marriage to Karon Bradley. The couple raised their family and lived their entire married lives in Grant. Bob continued his career with the phone company, which would later become Great Plains Communications, until his eventual retirement in 2000 after 47 years of service.

Bob was an avid Husker football fan, and had a great passion for animals, particularly cats. He loved to raise vegetable gardens, and was generous with his surpluses. Bob was known to be a man of very few words. Those closest to him came to realize that despite his quiet manner, he was blessed with a very caring demeanor. This trait was perhaps best encapsulated in the way he treated his family, and the way he cared for animals.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ronald Bennett.

Survivors include his wife, Karon Bennett of Grant, NE; son, Randy Bennett of Ogallala, NE; brother, Leslie (Jo) Bennett of Omaha, NE; and sister, Maxine Snyder of Seattle, WA.

Memorials are suggested to the Denver Dumb Friends League, which is an organization dedicated to animal welfare.

Cremation was chosen. No services are planned at this time.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
