Lloyd Eugene Marquardt

On Monday, July 22, 2024, Lloyd Eugene Marguardt, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away in Holyoke, CO at the age of 91. Lloyd grew up in Hastings NE, graduating from Hastings High School in 1950. After graduating, he found himself working at the Carter Hotel where he met his wife of 71 years. Lloyd joined the Air Force May 7, 1952. While on leave, November 1, 1952, he married the love of his life, Joan Joyce Houck at her parent’s home in Hastings, NE. After 4 years of service, he was discharged on May 6, 1956. On May 7, 1956 to May 6, 1960 he was a part of the Air Force Reserves.

Lloyd worked many jobs throughout his lifetime. Sometimes, he would work 2 or 3 jobs to support his family. It was very important to him to be able to do that. The one thing he loved in the variety of jobs he held was being around people. He loved to laugh and tease everyone he met. His hobbies included his love of farm animals, which included peacocks and monkeys. After his kids grew up, his hobby changed to raising canaries and finches, becoming an active member of the Rocky Mountain Society of Aviculture (bird club) for over 20 years. Lloyd was also a member of the Venango Community Church and Elks Lodge (in Ft. Collins). He was also honored to be the foster parent to 4 teenagers, John, Gary Becky Summers, and David Clarke.

During his lifetime, Lloyd called three locations home. Hastings, NE, where he grew up as a kid; Wellington, CO, where he raised his kids and lived for 44 years; and Venango, NE, where he retired and lived for 22 years.

Passing before Lloyd were his parents, James “Frank” Marquardt and Myrtle Goldie (Smith) Marquardt, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. He is survived by his wife, Joan Marquardt, his children Cindy Summers, Gloria Zamparelli, James & Debbie Marquardt and Dennis Marquardt, 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
