LINDA F. STUMPF, 69 of Grant, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO.
Linda was born October 4, 1946 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Sylvester L. and Loretta (Morrison) Walsh. As a young lady, Linda loved her grandmother, and chose to take care of her in North Platte, where she went on to attend and graduate from St. Patrick's Catholic School.
On July 2, 1966, she married Roger Lee Stumpf in Ogallala at St. Luke's Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Grant. Linda had worked in the Grant Welfare office at the courthouse for over 10 years before working in the billing department at the Perkins County Hospital. At age 40, Linda's life changed when she received news that she had a tumor in her spine, beginning a series of health problems. Upon the death of her husband in 2009, Linda and her daughter, Michelle, undertook a new venture, the opening of Poppe's Posies in downtown Grant. At the store, Linda was the heart and soul, a dynamic presence, offering her bookkeeping knowledge, positive attitude, willing hands, caring heart, and inspirational sales ability. Linda's impact and involvement in the shop was no surprise to anyone who knew her. She was the foundation to store, but also to her family. She was a caring advocate, willing to give of herself for the betterment of her family under any circumstance.
Linda was an avid sports fan, with a particular favor for tennis and the Atlanta Braves. In younger years, she played softball, until her competitive spirit could no longer overcome the wear-and-tear it took on her body. She was a great cook, and her enchiladas were known to bring people to the table. The family has many wonderful memories of Linda and Roger spoiling their grandchildren with attention and their affections, sometimes to the point of inducing laughter. Linda loved roses and kept a special place in her heart for her faithful canine companion, Fifi.
Linda was a long-time member of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Grant, where she taught Catechism for many years and was active in the Altar Society.
In addition to her husband, Linda was preceded in death by 2 children before birth; her brother, Paul Walsh; and a nephew, Travis Duncan.
Survivors include her children, Michele (Alan) Poppe of Grant, Shane (Andrea) Stumpf of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Carter & Hannah Stumpf, Brooke, Blake & Alexander Poppe; sisters, Kathy Rasmussen of Mitchell, Patricia Ream of Scottsbluff, Lorie (Jeff) Duncan of North Platte; sister-in-law, Betty Walsh of Mitchell; along with many other relatives and friends.
