KEITH E. NELSON, 88 of Grant, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.
Keith was born July 28, 1932, in Perkins County, Nebraska, to Frank and Helen (Kennicutt) Nelson. He grew up on a farm South of Elsie and graduated from Elsie High School. In 1953, Keith enlisted in the US Army, where he served 16 months in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
On June 7, 1958, Keith married Gail Hilferty and the couple made their home in Madrid, and they were blessed with two sons, Marty and Denny. Keith worked as a mechanic at Bullock Chevrolet before taking a job with the Perkins County Roads Department. He worked for the roads department for over forty years, serving as the Highway Superintendent for many of them, retiring in the mid-90s.
Keith was a quiet and humble man. He was a voracious reader and possessed a quick wit and dry sense of humor always ready with a joke. Keith was an animal lover, and so the family always had horses, calves, cats, and dogs. He was a Husker football, volleyball and basketball fan, and always enjoyed following the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Gail of Grant; two sons, Marty (Lori) Nelson of Denver, Denny (Julie) Nelson of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Andrew (Hadley), Tyler (Erin), Travis, Trina and Troy; sister, Kaye Mankhey of Lincoln; along with many other relatives and friends.
