Katheryn J. Brown

KATHERYN J. BROWN, 97 of Grant, NE, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016 at Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

Katheryn Jane Beachell Brown was bom August 24, 1918 in rural Perkins County. She was the youngest of seven children bom to William Alber and Alice Leona Degler Beachell. She attended grade school the little country school that is still on the corner of County Road 381 and 761. The Beachell farmstead was about a mile East of the
School. Katheryn attend the Brandon Community Sunday School and her family was very active there.

She graduated from PCHS in 1939. She married Albert Allen Brown on August 24, 1939. The lived in rural Perkins County for a year and then moved to California and stayed there for about a year. Their oldest daughter Rosalie Joyce Brown Gregerson was born there. When she was deemed old enough to travel they returned to Perkins County and took up farming. They shortly bought the farm where they lived until retiring to Grant in 1981. Their daughter Diana Colleen Brown Kraus Pankonin was born after they moved to this farm and she and her family live there now.

Katheryn was very active in her community. She was a member of the Friendship Circle Extension Club, She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church and
taught Sunday School, Bible School, chaired and served on many committees and was very active in UMW. She received her 75 year membership pin.

Katheryn loved sewing and sewed many garments for her girls and made countless pajamas for her grandchildren. She later turned to quilting and made many gorgeous
quilts and wall hanging including many banners for her church.

Katheryn and Albert bowled, fished, hunted and golfed together for many years. They were avid sports fans and attended every Plainsmen game and track meet that came along. Katheryn always laughed that more than half of her wardrobe was red!

Albert passed away in November of 2000. Katheryn lived for a very short time at West View and then moved to Golden Ours where she lived until her passing on February 26, 2016.

In addition to her husband Albert, Katheryn was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.

Survivors include her daughters, Rosalie (Larry) Gregerson and Diana (Larry) Pankonin. Grandchildren, Beth (Dallas) Settles, Tim (Tammy) Gregerson, Jeni (Troy) Wehmeyer, Alicia (Miguel) Patrick, John Kraus, Kathy (John) Woodmancy, Chris Pankonin, Paul (Jessica) Pankonin, Mike Pankonin, Shelly (Ryan) Young, Troy (Dana)
Pankonin, Jeremy (Trish) Pankonin and great grandchildren Garret and Katheryn Gregerson, Bryce (Renee) Wehymeyer, Breanne (Drake) Sauer, Gabrielle, Rachel and Katie Patrick, Tessa and Joel Kraus, Kayla, Peyton and Jacob Woodmancy, Brenden Pankonin, Dakota, Madalynn and Kalli Pankonin, Ashlie Pankonin,
Nicolas, Emma and Anthony Isso, Lane and Kaysa Pankonin and Jared and Jordan Pankonin. Plus numerous relatives and friends.

Services will be on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Grant United Methodist Church with Rev. Nora Mendyk officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
