Ivan J. Palu, 88, of Grant, passed away on January 21, 2024, at Imperial Manor.
Ivan was born November 5, 1935, to John and Bridget Kosmicki Palu in Loup City, Nebraska. In 1936, the family moved to a farm northwest of Grant. He attended Country School and graduated from Grant High School with the class of 1954. Ivan entered the US Army in January of 1957 and faithfully served until November of 1959, all but five months overseas.
Ivan worked at the Dudden Elevator for many years following his time in the military. In 1989, he opened Grant Hardware Hank in downtown Grant, which he operated until his retirement.
After retirement, he enjoyed photography, traveling, and time spent at the senior center. After a house fire, he moved to Westview retirement home for six years before moving to the Imperial Manor.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Clementena Thompsen, Eleanor Jackson, Regina Spahn, Cashmier Westerbuhr and Clarence Palu.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews, and families.
A memorial has been established in Ivan's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant, with Fr. Thomas Bush officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
