Harold L. Sexton

Harold Lavern Sexton was born on June 12, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was the oldest of four children born to Albert “Earl” and Loretta “Zelma” (Detty) Sexton. The family moved to Hayes County, Nebraska, when Harold was five. He attended school in and around Hayes Center and Dickens through his sophomore year, Wallace for his junior year, and graduated from Elsie High School in 1948.
Harold joined the United States Navy after graduation, served during the Korean War, and was stationed in Guam. After his discharge in 1952, he moved to Elsie and was married to Marie Pelster on December 29, 1952, in Elsie. In 1953, Harold and Marie moved to Omaha, NE,
where he was employed by the United States Postal Service. Marie died while they were in Omaha, and Harold returned to Elsie and became a rural mail carrier in 1956.
Harold was married to Irene Nielson who had come from Colorado to Madrid, NE, as a school teacher. They were married in Denver, CO, on June 11, 1959. In 1974, the family moved to Ogallala, NE, and Harold continued to deliver mail until he retired in 1989. Harold and Irene moved to Wheatland, WY in 1994 and then to Casper, WY, in 2010. He died on Friday, November 27, 2015 in Casper, WY. He had reached the age of 85.
Harold was a member of the V.F.W., a lifetime member of the Elsie American Legion, the Resurrection of our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie, and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. Harold was recognized as the “Carrier of the Year” in 1988 by the Rural Letter Carriers Association.
In addition to his parents and wife, Marie, Harold was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and Robertson, twin infant sons, Daniel and David, and an infant granddaughter, Kayla Peck.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of Casper, WY; two sons- Ed (Helen) Sexton of Lincoln, NE, and Tom Sexton of Smithville, MO; three daughters- Kathy (Troy) Brand of Omaha, NE; Connie Peck of Casper, WY; and Shirley (Curt) Rising of Rapid City, SD; eleven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren; his sister- Sharon Neal of North Platte, NE; many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.
Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie with Father Tom Kuffel as Celebrant. Interment of cremains will be in the Elsie Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM on Thursday at the church.
