Glennys Schilling

October 11, 1935 — September 23, 2017

GLENNYS SCHILLING, 81 of Grant, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, at her home in Grant.

Glennys was born October 11, 1935, at Julesburg, Colorado as the youngest of four children born to Theron and Agnes (Mayberry) Mercer. Glennys graduated from Big Springs High School.

On January 4, 1959, Glennys married Gerry Lee Schilling at Big Springs. The couple made their home in Ogallala briefly, before moving to Grant. Their union was blessed with three boys, Kelly, Kraig, and Kenton. Glennys worked as a cook at the Perkins County School system, before eventually taking a position with the hospital.

Glennys loved her life in Grant, along with her many friends. She loved to take walks, and could typically be found strolling the town early in the morning. She was a longtime member of the Grant United Methodist Church, where she remained active and involved.

Glennys served as an excellent example of love to her children and grandchildren. She was proud of her Mercer heritage, which involved being from a big and tight-knit family that knew how to have fun and didn't take the bonds of family for granted. When her grandchildren were born, Glennys' life became brighter. She was a wonderful grandma and considered herself blessed.

Glennys often exemplified what it was to be a friend. She was a supporter and advocate for many people over the years who found themselves in longterm care without anyone to visit. Glennys was a silent angel to many, as her quiet and unassuming care was something that came without restriction.

Glennys was preceded in death by her husband Gerry in 2004; along with two brothers, Jack and George Mercer.

Survivors include her three sons, Kelly (Chery) Schilling of Denver, Kraig (Mindy) Schilling of Lincoln, and Kenton (Lori) Schilling of Omaha; 7 grandchildren, Kristi, Ryan, Aaron, Cody, Miranda, Sarah, and Sidney; sister, Jean Armstrong of Holyoke, CO; sisters-in-law, Bernice Mercer of Columbus, Molly Mercer of Ft. Collins, CO, and Janet Schilling of Venango; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in her memory for later designation. Condolences can be shared online at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.

Services will be Friday, September 29, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Elmer Armijo officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
