Evelyn Faye Adams Tegnell peacefully passed away on October 5, 2020 in Durham, North Carolina.
Born in Grant Nebraska to WH Adams and Sarah Jane Shaw on August 13, 1920. Evelyn was the middle daughter of three children. She survived her older brother, Wendall, and younger sister, Theone, by several years. Evelyn was a proud 100 years old at her passing. She lived a long and vibrant life traveling the world always ready to go, see and learn new things while forever grounded by her roots in Grant, Nebraska. Graduating from Perkins County High School in 1937, she continued her higher education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska.
After graduating college Evelyn worked as a teacher in Sterling, Colorado where she met and married the love of her life Gordon E. Tegnell. At the end of WW II they moved to Loveland, Colorado where they had two children, David and Michael. Her most cherished time of life was in raising her two boys. To expand their careers as teachers the family moved to the east coast for graduate school and teaching positions on Long Island. Evelyn taught business administration at the Wheatley School in Old Westbury, New York for 20 years where she was loved and respected by her students and fellow teachers. Retirement from teaching led the family back West to Scottsdale, Arizona for 15 years and then East again to Durham, North Carolina where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Evelyn was a passionate reader and lender of books and was called the "book angel" by her friends. A great listener, she always welcomed visitors to her home and was interested and excited to hear about their lives. The Adams and Tegnell families have many nieces and nephews. She loved them all and they have beautiful memories of her.
Evelyn was a proud lifelong member of P.E.O. Sisterhood. She served as an officer in the various state chapters over her life. She incorporated the qualities of the Sisterhood in her life of Faith, Love, Purity, Justice and Truth.
