Edith E. Chevalier

September 19, 1925 — April 6, 2023

Edith E. Lungrin Chevalier, 97, of Wallace, passed away on April 6, 2023, at Linden Court in North Platte.

Edith was born September 19, 1925, to Ernfred and Florence Thaden Lungrin on the family farm south of Elsie, NE. She was the second child of a family of four. Edith attended country school through eighth grade and then Grainton high school graduating in 1942.

Edith married Paul Chevalier on her birthday in 1944. They farmed south of Elsie until 1951, when they moved to the Wallace community and bought the John Yancey farm southeast of Wallace in Hayes County. In 1958 they purchased the Dave Dillon farm, which was just north of the Yancy farm in Lincoln County, so their children would be in the Wallace school. They were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Besides working hard as a couple, they found time for the kids' school activities, family gatherings, clubs, gardening, and traveling with friends. Edith enjoyed making quilts that she gave away. However, her main interest and concern were always for her family.

Paul and Edith reared six children: sons Jim, Don, Doug, & Tim; and daughters Judy and Teresa.

The Chevaliers farmed and ranched for 38 years in Perkins, Hayes, and Lincoln counties before semi-retirement in 1982 when they bought a home and moved into Wallace. Paul passed away in June 2004 after almost 60 years of marriage. Edith continued to live in their home until 2014, when she moved to independent living at Centennial Park in North Platte, eventually transitioning to Linden Court in the Fall of 2021.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by infant twins; son Jim; daughters Judy Kay Autrey and Teresa Hill; grandson Steven Scott; granddaughter Lisa Scott; and three brothers, Manfred, George, and Harold.

She is survived by sons Paul Donald (Rosina) of Houston, TX, Douglas (Barbara) of Morton, IL, and Tim (Doris) of Aurora, NE; daughter-in-law Susan Chevalier of Quincy, IL; Son-in-law Jim Hill (Aileen) of Minneapolis, MN; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
