Dorothy I. Pelster, 91 of Grant, formerly of Grainton, passed away December 27, 2016 at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.
Dorothy was born March 20, 1925 at Elsie, Nebraska to William "Bill" and Clara (Skrivan) Kennicutt. She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1942.
Following high school, Dorothy worked at a department store in Grant. On October 1, 1945, Dorothy married Claytus Pelster in Elsie. The couple made their home northwest of North Platte briefly, before moving to the Wallace and Elsie areas where they farmed and raised their 2 children, Larry and Mary. Following the death of her husband in 2005, Dorothy moved to Westview in Grant and eventually Park Ridge Assisted Living. In 2015, Dorothy moved to Golden Ours Convalescent Home.
Dorothy was very kind, and always had coffee and cookies for her visitors. She was a skilled cake decorator, and worked on countless wedding and birthday cakes over the years. Dorothy loved flowers and was an accomplished seamstress. She had a very strong faith that she leaned on heavily during the difficult times in her life, which involved burying both of her children and her husband.
She was a longtime member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie where she was also active in the Altar Society.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Claytus; son, Larry in 1992; daughter, Mary in 2004; her parents; and brothers, Robert and Frank Kennicutt.
Survivors include her special caregivers, Bill Robertson and Carmen Pelster of Elsie; sisters-in-law, Lulu Kennicutt of Hershey, Irene Sexton of Casper, WY; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Grant with Father Thomas Bush as Celebrant. Rosary will be recited on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the church in Grant. Burial will be in the Elsie Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 1, 2017 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.
