Dorothy Marie (Perlette) Ford, 100, passed away on August 30, 2020, at Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, NE.
Dorothy was born on June 22, 1920, in rural Perkins County to John and Hannah (Hastings) Perlette. She attended grade school in a one-room school near Madrid and graduated from Perkins County High School in Grant.
In 1940, Dorothy married George Ford, and they originally settled on the family farm for several years before moving to Madrid. They were blessed with five daughters. George and Dorothy owned a hardware store and grocery store in Madrid while continuing to farm. In later years they spent their winters traveling to the warmer climates of Texas and Arizona. Dorothy loved to garden, dance, and beat her opponents at cards, dominoes, and bingo. She played softball into her 60s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, John and Hannah Perlette; sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and LaVerne Storer; brother-in-law, Dean Stephens; son-in-law, Don Gollner; and grandson, Tom Hilferty.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Georgia (Les) Barbee of Ogallala, Wyvonne (Lyle) Hilferty of Limon, CO, Judy Gollner of Madrid, Eva (Dale) Grothman of Venango, and Margaret (Bob) Neuhalfen of Ogallala; sister, Shirley Stephens of San Antonio, TX; 15 grandkids and spouses, 36 great-grandkids and spouses, 15 great-great-grandkids, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at 2:00 pm at the Madrid Cemetery with John Long officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant. Masks and social distancing are required.
