Dean August Lagler was born on January 21, 1945 at Grant Nebraska. He was the 2nd of 4 children born to Faldean and Agnes Berends Lagler. Dean was baptized into the Lutheran faith on February 11, 1945 by Pastor Reddel and was confirmed on May 17, 1959.
Dean grew up on the family farm northwest of Grant and attended country school until the 6th grade when he attended school in Grant. He graduated from Perkins County High School in 1963 and began his farming career. He also served with the National Guard out of Ogallala for 6 years.
Dean was married to Janet DeFord of Ogallala at the Grant Zion Lutheran Church on August 15, 1970. They made their home northwest of Grant until 1978 when they moved into Grant. Dean suffered a stroke 5 years ago and had other medical complications develop. He was moved to the Imperial Manor Nursing Home and was in failing health when he died on Sunday morning, July 5th, 2015. He had reached the age of 70.
Dean took a great deal of pride in his wheat farming and being on the tractor was his favorite place to be. He also loved watching his kids and grandkids in all of their activities.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lori Ann, brother-in-law, Larry Foss, and his father-in-law, Romaine DeFord.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of Grant; one son- Mark (Becca) of Grant; 2 daughters- Becky (Aaron) Uehling of Grant and Katie Arndt of Cozad; 6 grandchildren- Miles and Caleb Lagler, Alison Arndt, and Casey, Colson, and Cadge Uehling; 3 sisters- Connie Foss of Sutter California, JoAnn (Bob) Griffin of Johnson City Texas, and Margie (Tony) Mueller of Milaca Minnesota; mother-in-law, Wilma DeFord of Grant and 2 brother-in-laws, Alan and Carl DeFord.
Funeral services for Dean Lagler will be held on Thursday, July 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church southwest of Ogallala with Pastor Wayne Pick, officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Lutheran Hour or the Trinity or Zion Lutheran Churches. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.
