Darrel F. Yost, 80, of Madrid, Nebraska, passed away on April 14, 2023, at Perkins County Hospital in Grant after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Darrel was born on September 19, 1942, in Moundridge, Kansas, to Floyd Aaron and Frieda (Becker) Yost. He was raised and educated at Spring Valley School in Kansas.
On March 24, 1963, he married Helen Holderman in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Their blessed union spanned six decades, and their marriage was blessed with seven children.
Darrel and Helen resided in Newton, Kansas, for a time before moving to Idaho, Wisconsin, and finally settling in Madrid, Nebraska in September 1998. Throughout his life, Darrel worked diligently, first helping area farmers, then transitioning into agricultural trucking, and ultimately ending his career in farming.
Darrel and Helen were charter members of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite Church in Paxton.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Frieda; son-in-law, Harold Zimmerman; and a grandson, Brycen Yost.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Helen Yost of Madrid; children, Debra (Amos) Bender of Minerva, OH, Sharon Zimmerman of Madrid; Connie (Ezra) Bender of Barron, Wisconsin, Julie (Brad) Dejax of Vanderhoof, BC; Denise (Perry) Unruh of Madrid, Keith (Marita) Yost of Madrid; Merlin (Rachelle) Yost of Del Norte, Co; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, David and John, both of Moundridge, KS; sister, Marlene Nightingale, Stover, MO; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial has been established in Darrel's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.
Services will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 2:30 pm at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite Church in Paxton. Interment will follow in the Paxton Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 16, from 2-4 pm at Bullock Long Funeral Home in Grant.
