BARBARA MAE VLASIN, 73 of Madrid, passed away October 6, 2017, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant.
Barbara was born April 12, 1944, at Imperial to Robert and Margaret (Revell) Bonner. She attended Madrid High School where she graduated with the class of 1962.
On July 21, 1962, Barbara married Neal Vlasin at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace. The couple made their home on the Vlasin farm south of Madrid before eventually moving into town. Their union was blessed with five children. Barbara had worked at the school as a janitor and cook for several years, she waitressed and tended bar as well. In later years, Barbara babysat, which was something that she found very fulfilling.
Barbara kept big gardens over the years and liked to can her surpluses. She was an excellent cook and a dedicated wife and mother.
Barbara was a longtime member of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church as well as the Altar Society. She was also a member of the 3-M Club.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary; brothers, Bruce, sister, Marilyn Tegarden, Glenna Peintner; and parents-in-law, Stanley and Dorothy Vlasin.
Survivors include her husband Neal Vlasin of Madrid; children, Trudy (Gary) Samuelson of Ceresco, Pat (Patti) Vlasin of Grant, Kevin Vlasin of Madrid, Brenda (Brad) Johnson of Hay Springs; grandchildren, McKayla (Brandon) Aschinger and their son, Charlie, all of Breda, IA; Joey, Jakeb, Mattie, and Cooper Johnson all of Hay Springs; brother, Brad (Tracy) Bonner of Loveland, CO; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Barbara's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Grant with Fr. Thomas Bush as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Madrid Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
