Ann F. Schmitt, 85, of Grant, passed away June 1, 2022, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Ann was born November 20, 1936, in Perkins County, Nebraska, to Wesley and Marie (Svec) Sejkora. She attended rural school in the area.
On May 13, 1961, Ann was united in marriage to Leonard Schmitt, and the couple made their home in Brandon. Their union would be blessed with four children, Laurie, David, Randy, and Milissa. The family lived in Brandon in the same building that housed Leonard's TV repair business, as well as the general store and post office. They also had a small gas station on the same property. In 1970, the family moved to a farm south of Brandon. In 1996, they had a house built west of Grant on Ann's family's farm where she grew up. Ann lived there until her illness.
Ann was a devout Catholic, and her faith was foundational to the kind of wife and mother she was. She had been active at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church nearly her entire life, where she was involved in the Altar Society until her health would no longer allow it. She had special devotions to the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
Ann loved to garden and tend to her flowers. She had a gentle spirit and fostered a deep love for all animals; most recently, she even managed to befriend the opossums. The family had kept a pet coyote for several months, in addition to the cats and birds that always seemed to be a part of Ann's everyday life.
Ann and Leonard would often bring back trailer loads of older painted furniture that Ann would refinish and rehabilitate. Ann and Leonard also loved to travel. They were quite blessed to have taken many trips overseas throughout their years together. Once a year, they would go on a trip to a US location with other members of the same insurance company Leonard sold insurance for. Ann had also been a long-time member of the Red Hat Society.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband and siblings; Charlie Sejkora, Jerry (Martha) Sejkora, and Elsie (Joe) Bernasek.
Survivors include her four children, Laurie Schmitt of Venango and her daughter, Savannah Schmitt, David (Shelly) Schmitt of Grant and their children, Brandy (Moe) Keshavarzi and Jenni (Barry) Hansen, Randy (Lisa) Schmitt of Grant and their daughters, Sarah (Sabrina) Schmitt-Pinnix and Naomi (Andrew)Thompson, and Milissa Schmitt of Venango. Survivors also include five great-grandchildren, Harlow, Blake, Georgia Keshavarzi, Dexter, and Will Hansen; along with many other relatives and friends.
